Empowering young and emerging evaluators (YEEs) is crucial for building a robust, diverse, inclusive, and sustainable evaluation community that can address the complex challenges we face. By providing opportunities for emerging evaluators to develop their skills and gain practical experience (and proactively contribute to evaluation community effort), we can ensure a more sustainable and fair future of the evaluation field. Additionally, promoting the inclusion of young and diverse perspectives in evaluation and the active participation of YEEs can help to promote social justice and equity, and ensure that evaluation processes are more inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the needs of diverse communities.

The EnCompass Learning Center  panel on Empowering Young and Emerging Evaluators (YEEs), moderated by Khalil Bitar, will feature representatives from EvalYouth, the American Evaluation Association (AEA) Graduate Education Diversity Internship (GEDI) Program, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Evaluation Fellowship, and the Work Bank Independent Evaluation Group (IEG). These panelists, who have each played instrumental roles in supporting the community of YEEs, will share their perspectives on the following:

  • The transformative power of engaging YEEs in evaluation
  • The way in which the communities of practice and fellowships they represent have opened up pathways for YEEs and changed the field as a whole
  • Advice for those who are entering the market
  • Advice for employers on how to best support and engage YEEs in their work
