Holiday PartyDecember 4, 2014

CEA memebers and guests enjoyed great conversation and a lovely meal at the annual holiday party at Greek Islands (200 S Halsted St, Chicago).

The CEA co-hosted evaluator reception at the CREA conference was held on Thursday, September 18 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the OakBrook Hills Resort.
Jazzin' at the SheddJuly 16, 2014

On Wednesday, July 16, CEA members and guests enjoyed musical and aquatic entertainment at Jazzin' at the Shedd following two exciting presentations and highly engaging discussions on capacity building in both external and internal evaluation settings:

  • Yolanda Suarez-Balcazar presents Building Capacity for Evaluation and Organizational Transformation. Dr. Suarez-Balcazar, a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, is a community psychologist by training with over 20 years of experience conducting community-based research and evaluation activities in collaboration with non-for-profits serving Latinos, African Americans and individuals with disabilities. She has been the principal investigator on several projects designed to evaluate the impact of community health interventions. She studies the nexus between race, culture and disparities. She and her colleagues have developed and empirically validated an Evaluation Capacity Building Instrument.
  • Matthew Feldmann presents Great Evaluation: Demonstrating how Collins’ Good to Great concepts are relevant to evaluation organizations. Dr. Feldmann is the founder and principal research of Goshen Education Consulting, Inc and currently serves as an external evaluator for eleven projects with six different clients. Dr. Feldmann has been involved with funded project evaluations since 2002 and has served as a consultant to institutions of higher education since 1998.
Roundtable on Techniques that Enhance Human Services EvaluationMay 29, 2014

On May 29, 2014, Ebony Dill of the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services and Mark Relyea of the University of Illinois at Chicago led a roundtable on Techniques that Enhance Human Services Evaluation. This event was held at 33 W Monroe St, Chicago (16th Floor).


Melissa Brown-Sims of the American Institutes of Research

Melissa Brown-Sims, a researcher in the Education division at the American Institutes of Research (AIR) gave a highly informative presentation on data collection techniques and creating an evaluation plan with a client. Brown-Sims is the project manager of two multi-year Transition-to-Teaching (TTT) evaluations with the Chicago Public Schools, a five-year state-wide evaluation of school leadership focused professional development program in Mississippi, and oversees AIR’s technical assistance support team of twenty-eight U.S. Department of Education funded Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF) 3 and TIF 4 grantees.
